What’s Next with Liana Douillet Guzmán, CEO of Folx

Why does your business exist and what’s next for your brand?

Folx Health exists because the healthcare system has historically failed LGBTQIA+ individuals. We’re here to ensure that this community gets affirming, high-quality care tailored to their unique needs. Next, we’re focusing on expanding access, offering more localized resources, and partnering with organizations to address intersectional healthcare barriers - work that has never been more important.

What do you think is overhyped right now and why?

Tech-driven “one-size-fits-all” healthcare solutions (I'm looking at you AI as the panacea). While innovation is critical, marginalized communities require solutions grounded in empathy and cultural competence—not just algorithms.

What’s something in your industry that you think a lot about but no one seems to be talking about?

The mental health toll of navigating a healthcare system that often feels alienating or outright hostile. There’s plenty of conversation about access to care, but not enough about the emotional resilience required to even seek it out.

What part of life are you most excited for AI to disrupt?

Simplifying administrative burdens in healthcare. From streamlining documentation to automating affirming insurance claims, AI has the potential to free up clinicians to focus on what truly matters: connecting with and caring for patients.

What makes you optimistic for the future?

The resilience and ingenuity of the LGBTQIA+ community. The resilience and advocacy of LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies prove that change is not just possible but inevitable.

Give us one prediction for the future.

The future of healthcare will be radically community-driven. Providers will be held accountable by the voices of those they serve, and marginalized groups will lead the charge in redefining what care looks like.
